Up close, the Karakoram looks completely different. Instead of viewpoints there are glaciers, rocky moraines, high mountain valleys and one camp after another, each leading deeper into the range. Over 16 days we cross one of the wildest regions of Pakistan and reach Spantik Base Camp at 4,360 m.
We start in Islamabad and fly to Skardu, a town ringed by the mountains of the Karakoram. From there jeeps take us to Arandu Village, where the road ends and the trek begins. Over the following days we walk along the Chogo Lungma Glacier, stopping at Chogo Brangsa and Bolocho, until at last we stand beneath Golden Peak.
This is not a trip about breaking records. What matters most is acclimatisation, a good pace and time spent in the mountains. Along the way there are rest days, time to get used to the altitude, and the chance not just to see high mountains but to spend several days right among them.
Important: the Skardu to Islamabad flight depends on the weather. If it is cancelled or delayed, the programme is adjusted accordingly and the reserve day is used to get back to Islamabad safely.
